The first part of working on the engine coolant temperature sensor involves taking off the negative battery cable and then partly draining the system. Pull up on both sides of the engine cover to remove it. If you're using SRT models, take out the air pump tube bolts and the whole assembly, release the tension on the accessory drive belt and lift it off the idler pulley. After that, disconnect the supercharger idler pulley by loosening the retaining bolts on top and bottom, then remove the accessory drive belt idler pulley to reach the coolant temperature sensor. Release the sensor by pulling out the sensor harness connector, lift the critter off of the retaining clip and then slide the sensor out. When you are attaching the sensor and clip, first clean the area you are mounting on and then lubricate the sensor seal with petroleum jelly. Replace the harness connector and for SRT models, secure and tighten the accessory drive belt idler pulley bolt to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.), plus the supercharger idler pulley bolts to the same value. Install the accessory drive belt, the air pump tube assembly with its retaining bolts and the engine cover. Align the retaining clips with the rubber mounts. Swab the rubber mounts with a little lubricant to ease the process of putting on the engine cover. After that, fill the coolant reservoir and reattach the negative battery cable.
