Before you start servicing and repair the harmonic balancer and crankshaft pulley, disconnect the battery at the negative terminal and remove all the coolant from the engine. Unbolt the fan from the radiator and then do the same with the radiator itself, accessory drive belt and starter. Lock the flywheel by installing Special Tool 9102 Flywheel Locking Tool into the starter opening. After that, take out the vibration damper bolt and vibration damper from the crankshaft. If there are signs of an oil leak around the front crankshaft oil seal, you should change it. Rub any rough or uneven parts on the damper's sealing surface with emery paper or an oil stone. If the vibration damper bolt is longer than 78 mm, replace it and install the new one so that the front of the vibration damper is positioned on the crankshaft. Brush a bit of engine oil on the threads and screw in the bolt, first tightening it to 200 Nm (148 ft. lbs.) and then retightening it an extra 90° clockwise. Once more, attach the accessory drive belt, the radiator with its fan and take out Special Tool 9102 Flywheel Locking Tool. After all this, replace the starter, join the negative battery cable again, startup your vehicle and make sure no leaks are found.
