Before you get to the timing belt and sprocket, do the following, remove the negative battery cable, lift your vehicle on a hoist, then take off the right front wheel and the belt splash shield. Then, take off the accessory drive belts, crankshaft damper and AC/Generator belt tensioner and finally unhook the generator to take it and the bracket off. Take away the housing for the upper and lower timing belts, the coolant recovery container, the right mount holding the engine in place and the engine support bracket. When the oil pump housing TDC mark is next to the crankshaft sprocket TDC mark, hold the crankshaft until the trailing edge of the sprocket tooth is totally lined up with the TDC mark. Remove the tensioner lock bolt, attach a 6 mm allen wrench to it and rotate the tensioner pulley's top plate clockwise to provide some slack for you to remove the belt. Should you find that the timing belt was damaged by incorrect tracking, install the belt tensioner pulley and bracket as a whole. To install, move the crankshaft sprocket to TDC using the arrow on the oil pump and keep the exhaust camshaft sprocket a half notch below the intake sprocket. Put the timing belt on the crankshaft first and route it past the sprocket on the water pump, idler pulley, camshaft sprockets and tensioner. Loosen the retaining nut and turn the exhaust camshaft sprocket counterclockwise until the marks are in place and the belt is slack. Turn the top plate of the belt tensioner pulley using the 6 mm allen wrench, counterclockwise until it aligns with the spring tang and then use torque specifications to fasten the tensioner lock bolt to 25 Nm (220 inch lbs.) while still holding the spring tang and setting notch in their proper positions. Take out the allen wrench and torque wrench, rotate the crankshaft clockwise to TDC with your hand, then turn it an additional two revolutions to correctly seat the belt, making sure both timing marks match. Compare the spring tang to the tolerance value; if the results match, go ahead, but if they don't, apply tension again. Afterward, attach the engine mount support bracket and both timing belt covers with their bolts torqued to 6 Nm (50 inch lbs.). Install the generator and the bracket loosely, locking it into place with the bolts. Continue with the AC/Generator belt tensioner, crankshaft damper, right engine mount, coolant recovery container, accessory drive belts, belt splash shield, the right front wheel and finally reconnect the car battery's negative cable.
