How to Service and Repair a Tie Rod End on Chrysler Town & Country?

Service or repair the tie rod end by raising the car, supporting it and removing its front wheel and tire. Full turn the steering wheel to make the inner tie rod come out further. Open the inner tie rod and lift off the outer tie rod jam nut. Lock the tie rod end stud against movement with a socket and then unscrew and remove the nut that fastens the outer tie rod to the steering knuckle with a wrench. Attach Remover, Special Tool C-3894-A to the tie rod end stud and separate it from the steering knuckle arm. Separate the end of the outer tie rod from the inner tie rod by turning it a couple of times to remember the correct number of turns. After that, get rid of the outside tie rod and then unscrew the inner tie rod nut. Pull the clamp free from the inner tie rod so the bellows can be removed. On the left side, also unscrew the leak detection pump and move it closer to the vehicle's center during this step. Disconnect both clamps so the bellows are not attached to the steering gear body and to the transfer tube and then separately remove the bellows from the inner tie rod. Loose the travel restrictor screw from the lower arm and install the proper tool for unfastening the inner tie rod. With a correctly sized wrench on the outer gear, prevent the gear from rotating as you loosen the inner tie rod to protect the gear's mechanism. Don't try to pry the inner tie rod out with a hammer or heat if the original tool doesn't work, because this might ruin the steering gear and need you to install a new one. Lastly, secure the rack gear stationary and use the wrench to take out the inner tie rod.
