Before taking out the crankshaft, first take the engine from the vehicle and put it onto an engine stand. Empty the oil from the engine, take out the
Oil Filter and detach the
Oil Pan and oil pick-up tube. After that, remove the bracket holding the idler pulley for the accessory
Drive Belt, the upper
Intake Manifold and the cylinder head covers. Remove the cover over the
Timing Chain, the primary timing chain, the crankshaft sprocket, the oil pump and the crankshaft rear oil seal retainer. After that, remove the structural windage tray. Use the crankshaft to move the connecting rod cap so it is close to the edge and apply a permanent marker or scribe tool to mark the bearing caps, as they aren't the same. Do not mark the engine close to the connecting rod to avoid any damage. Carefully unscrew the bearing cover bolt caps since damaging the crankshaft's bearings could occur, then take out the main bearing cap bolts and tie bolts and finally remove the main bearing caps. When taking out the crankshaft, make sure not to harm the bearing surfaces. To end, take the crankshaft out of the cylinder block. Before installing the bearings, lubricate them with engine oil, putting the coated and oil groove portion of the thrust washer against the crankshaft thrust surface. Slide the crankshaft into place, advance it, district the front thrust washer, add grease and set it in place, then return the crankshaft to install the rear thrust washer. With the engine oil, lubricate the lower main bearing areas and then fit the main bearings and caps, lubricating the bolts of the cap first. Work the inner main cap bolts up to 17 lbs/ft, check end play on the crankshaft, fit in the connecting rods and check the side clearance. Place the windage tray, cover the bolts with oil and tighten to 27 Nm plus 1/4 turn, after which install the main cap tie bolts and tighten to 28 Nm. Next, install the rear crankshaft oil seal retainer and the oil seal, then place the oil pump assembly. Follow this by the crankshaft sprocket, timing chain, timing chain cover, cylinder head covers, idler pulley bracket for the accessory drive belt, an oil pick-up tube and O-ring, oil pan, oil filter and an oil dipstick tube. After that, replace the engine assembly and fill its crankcase with the oil specified by the manufacturer.
