- Q: How to Service an Occupant Detection Sensor on Dodge Caliber?A:Before working on the occupant detection sensor, unhook the negative side of the battery, let the system capacitor discharge for two minutes and then work on the air bag parts. Make sure you take the passenger front seat out of the car in one piece, so you don't drop or strike the seat weight sensor or the whole seat. Put the strain gauge alignment tool 9689 under the sensor body before you remove or install the nut for the sensor stud on the seat adjuster and always service the fasteners of the sensor by hand to not harm them. Following the removal of the passenger front riser, open up the electrical connectors on each weight sensor and put strain gauge alignment tool 9689 in place. Slide in the fork, secure the support yoke against the cage, loosen the center stud nut and place the fork into every sensor on your scale. Detach the seat track from the seat risers, get rid of the nuts holding the seat weight sensor to the adjuster track and pull out the sensor.

Next, wait two minutes to let the system capacitor discharge. Take out the passenger side front seat from the car and free the seat wire harness from each of the four weight sensor connectors under the seat. In addition, pull the seat wire harness away from the connector receptacle found on the inboard side of the inboard seat adjuster upper track. Secure the body of each seat weight sensor to the floor with a strain gauge alignment tool (Special Tool No. 9689) while taking out the nut on the seat track riser to avoid harming the sensor. Add the alignment tool to the sensors and take off the nut attaching the sensor stud to the seat track riser. Carry the special tool to each weight sensor and remove all four nuts that attach the sensor studs to the seat track risers. Slowly separate the seat track risers from the studs, take out the nuts that hold the sensor to the lower studs and lastly eliminate the seat weight sensor from the seat adjuster.
