Ensure the Supplemental Restraint System is disabled by taking off the negative battery cable, waiting two minutes and then isolating it. Make certain the car's front wheels face ahead and lock the steering wheel to the column or securely fix the rotor to the Clock Spring housing which holds the wheel centered. When the centering of the Clock Spring is affected, both the Clock Spring and the Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) unit should be changed. Set the front wheels forward, disconnect the negative cable on the battery and take the driver air bag off the steering wheel. Remove the wire harness from the steering wheel's connector that goes into the upper Clock Spring connector receptacle and, if it has one, take out the wire harness from the Clock Spring pigtail for the steering wheel heater element. Make sure to remove the steering wheel from the steering column and secure the Clock Spring rotor if it's going to be used again. Take off the upper and lower shrouds around the steering column and the two screws that attach the Clock Spring to the housing. Remove the Clock Spring from the steering column so you can get to and remove the harness connectors, including those for the multi-function switch, heated steering wheel, SAS, two Clock Springs and adjustable pedal switch. Also, remove the Clock Spring from the steering column, since it cannot be fixed and has to be replaced if it does not work, is damaged or if the driver air bag has been set off. In addition, unplug the optional multi-function switch and fill in the blank for the adjustable pedal switch on the Clock Spring.
