Before servicing or repairing your heater control valve, drain the engine cooling system first. First, remove the vacuum harness from the actuator, take off the heater hoses from the nipples and then remove the front water valve from the engine compartment for the front water valve. For cars with the rear A/C, drain the cooling system, then open the cover on the rear heater-A/C unit. Release the clip keeping the cable housing to the bracket on the water valve, take the control cable out of the rear water valve lever hook, remove the two hoses from the heater-A/C and then pull the water valve out of the back of the heater-A/C unit. In the engine compartment, point the arrow on the front water valve towards the heater core, add and install the heater hoses, plug the harness connector into the engine assembly and finish by filling the engine cooling system. With the rear water valve, fit it to the back heater-A/C unit, attach the heater hoses, hook the control cable end to the clevis near the lever on the valve, push the cable housing into its bracket, install the retaining clip over the housing, replace the cover on the heater-A/C unit and then start filling your engine's cooling system.
