Begin your service or repair of the heater control valve by draining the engine cooling system first. To get the front water valve out, pull the vacuum harness connector from the actuator, remove the heater hoses from the nipples and remove the water valve from within the engine compartment. Only models that have a rear heater-A/C unit should drain the engine cooling system and then open the cover of the rear heater-A/C unit. Cut loose the retaining clip that connects the control cable housing to the water valve bracket, disconnect the control cable from its place on the back of the rear water valve lever, take off the two heater hoses from their nipples and then you can take out the water valve. For setup, hold the front water valve in the engine area so the arrow points toward the heater, reattach the hoses and fit the vacuum harness plug. Do not forget to put coolant in the cooling system after that. The rear water valve goes near the rear heater-A/C unit, so attach the hoses, reattach the control cable end using a pin, line up the cable housing with the bracket, lock it with a retaining clip, install the cover and finish by refilling the engine cooling system.
