Start by unhooking the battery negative cable and taking out all the refrigerant from the system to service and repair the expansion valve. For the front expansion valve, take out the screw assembled on the rubber block fitting of the suction line jumper, separate the fitting and plug or tape over every opened refrigerant line fitting. Attach the suction line jumper and filter-drier together, then move them both away from the expansion valve to access the fixings on the valve. Afterwards, individually remove the screws from both the expansion valve and the evaporator coil block fitting and separate them. Again, cover all open refrigerant line fittings with either caps or tape. For the special rear expansion valve in models equipped with heater-A/C, detach and separate the battery negative cable and remove the refrigerant from the system. After the cover is gone, remove the screw securing the rear heater-A/C unit liquid and suction lines to the expansion valve and separate the lines. Place plugs or tape over all of the opened refrigerant line fittings. Unlock the two screws joining the expansion valve to the rear heater-A/C unit combination coil evaporator tube bracket and then remove the expansion valve. Remove the tape covering the evaporator coil block by hand and the plug from the evaporator side of the expansion valve, then line up the valve with the coil and fasten it to the coil bobbin with two screws, torqued to 11.4 Nm (100 in. lbs.). Screw in the block fittings at the suction line jumper and on the expansion valve first, then place the suction line jumper block over the expansion valve and fasten it with a screw tightened to 22 Nm (200 in. lbs.). Bind the battery negative cable, remove the working refrigerant from the system and then top it up with refrigerant. When installing the rear expansion valve, uncover the tube bracket and the valve side with your tool, place the valve in this position on the bracket and attach it with two screws tightened to 11.4 Nm (100 in. lbs.). Remove the tape or plugs from each line and the rear heater A/C unit, run the lines to the expansion valve, connect them with the adapter plate and fasten the mounting screw to 22 Nm (200 in. lbs.). Attach the rear heater-A/C cover, attach the battery's negative cable, empty the refrigerant from the system and recharge it.
