How to Service and Repair the Pitman Arm on Dodge Ram 1500?

To service the Pitman Arm on your 2500 or 3500, start by placing the marks in alignment and sliding in the Pitman Arm. Following that, fit the lock washer and retaining nut to the pitman shaft, tighten the nut to 251 Nm (185 ft. lbs.). Next, join the drag link to the pitman arm, fasten it with a nut and turn it to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.), then an additional 90 degrees. Next, get rid of the supports and guide the vehicle safely to the floor by adjusting the steering wheel and toe. When the adjustment is done, set the sleeved tie rod clamp bolts to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.) while making sure the retaining bolt is at the bottom of the clamp on the sleeve.

How to Service and Repair the Pitman Arm on Dodge Ram 3500?

For service and repair of the Pitman Arm on models 4500 and 5500, remove the track bar bolt 4 and lower the track bar 5 for more space. Next, take off drag link nut 4 from pitman arm 2. You can use either a puller C3894-A 1 or a similar item to take out the drag link 3 which is connected to the pitman arm 2. Note the locations of the pitman arm 2 and shaft for use when reinstalling the assembly. Unstake nut 5 and take it off of the pitman arm 2. The final step is to use Puller OTC(R) 5055 2 or the tool of your choice to take out pitman arm 1.
