Q: How to Safely Disable the Airbag System While Servicing Blower Control Switches on Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A:
Before servicing the blower motor, turn off the air bag system on vehicles with air bags by removing and isolating the battery negative (ground) cable, then wait for two minutes so the air bag system capacitor can become inactive. This is the only way to stop the air bags and if you don't follow this advice, the air bags could go off and you might be hurt. If there is a problem with the blower motor switch, the entire a/c heater control needs to be changed; it is not fixable.
Q: How to Service Blower Control Switches on Jeep Wrangler?
A:
Service the blower motor switch on a car with air bags by disconnecting the negative battery cable and waiting for two minutes so the air bag system discharges. After releasing the negative battery cable, use the suggested instrument to carefully pry the blower motor switch knob off the switch stem from the A/C-heater control. Disconnect the A/C-heater control from its place in the instrument panel, unscrew the blower motor switch and remove the switch from the back of the control. Put the blower motor switch on the back of the A/C-heater control and twist in the screw with 2 N.m (17 in. lbs.) of torque. Install the A/C-heater control, return the blower motor switch knob to the switch stem up front and connect the negative battery cable.
