How to Locate and Replace the Coolant Temperature Sensor on a 3.7L Engine on Jeep Commander?

A water jacket at the front of the 3.7L engine's intake manifold holds the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor which is next to the generator at the rear. Before removing the sensor, drain the cooling system a bit to make sure the coolant isn't hot and under pressure. After that, remove the cable connecting the sensor to the wiring and take out the sensor from the intake manifold. Thread sealant should be applied to the sensor before replacing it into the engine block. Fix the sensor by turning it to 11 Nm (8 ft. lbs.), rejoin the electrical cable and replace any engine coolant you found missing.
