2000 Dodge Durango A/C Expansion Valve Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair an A/C Expansion Valve for Front on 2000 Dodge Durango?
A: When working on or fixing the expansion valve, be sure to start by cutting off the negative terminal of the car battery. Take out the refrigerant from the refrigerant system. Following this, take out the liquid line from the back corner of the engine compartment and unmount the electronic cycling clutch switch from the rear outboard part of the expansion valve. Open the two screws that grip the expansion valve to the evaporator tube plate and carefully pull it out. Then, use plugs to secure or tape over, all openings in the refrigerant lines. After opening the tape or removal plugs on the evaporator tubes and the side of the expansion valve facing the tubes, slash the expansion valve in the flange and secure using the two screws (tighten to 11.4 Nm or 100 in. lbs.). Reattach the electronic cycling clutch switch to the outboard side of the expansion valve and then run the rear liquid line to the engine compartment. Then, fasten the battery's negative lead, release the refrigerant gas and charge the system.
