2001 Dodge Neon Brake Master Cylinder Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Brake Master Cylinder Without ABS on 2001 Dodge Neon?
A: To start service or repair, pump down the vacuum in the power brake booster by pressing the brake pedal 4 to 5 times, with the engine off, until the pedal is firm. Remove the negative cable from the battery and move it far enough so it cannot touch the battery, then do the same with the positive cable and remove the battery from the tray, tightening the nut on the back. Remove the wiring harness connector from the brake fluid level switch in the master cylinder reservoir, then unplug all four brake tubes going from the master cylinder and the two at the proportioning valves, installing plugs at all open ports on the master cylinder. Wipe the surface around where the master cylinder is joined to the power brake booster with a brake cleaner, then take off the two holding nuts from the top and slide the master cylinder straight out. Bleed the master cylinder beforehand and fit the proportioning valves in the corresponding ports, using brand new O-rings. Clean the face of the power brake booster, set the master cylinder on top of the studs and press it carefully up to where it meets the booster. Fasten the two master cylinder mounting nuts at 18 Nm (160 inch lbs.), link up the four brake tubes from the master cylinder with the proportioning valve, tighten all connections at 17 Nm (145 inch lbs.) and plug the brake fluid level switch wire connector back in. First, put the battery back in place and ensure it is secure and then attach the positive and negative wires. Correctly fill the master cylinder and test the brakes while driving on the road to see if they work well.
