2000 Jeep Wrangler Wiper Switch Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain the Wiper Switch on 2000 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Start with disconnecting the negative battery cable before working with the windshield washer switch. Get rid of the knee blocker from the instrument panel before you take out the three screws that secure the bottom steering column shroud to the upper shroud. For a conventional non-tilting steering column, loosen the upper mounting nuts and for a tilt steering column, lower it all the way down. Loosen and pull out the lower and upper shrouds, one at atime, from the steering column. Once that's done, loosen the screws holding the switch shield-bracket assembly to the steering column at the top and the bottom. Tilt the lower part of the switch water shield bracket bracket away from the steering column, then pull both up with the multi-function switch to remove the unit. If your steering column tilts, lifting this release lever gives your engine some extra room. To get to the wire harness connector, pull the windshield wiper and washer switch up and away from the right steering column and disconnect it. In reverse order from removal, tighten these screws: upper switch mounting screws to 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs.), lower switch water shield and bracket screw to 1.1 Nm (10 in. lbs.), non-tilt steering column mounting nuts to 22 Nm (200 in. lbs.) and steering column shroud mounting screws to 2 Nm (18 in. lbs.). For the rear, unplug and isolate the negative battery terminal and next, take away the center instrument panel bezel. Thanks to the four screws securing the accessory switch bezel, after removing the bezel, you can unplug the wire harness connectors from the end of the accessory switches and the cigar lighter. After removing the accessory switch bezel, gently release the snaps at both ends of the rear wiper and washer switch receptacle on the back of the switch with a thin-bladed screwdriver. Then, pull out the switch. The installation is the same as removal, remember to engage both switch clips fully and fasten the screws to 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs.).
