2002 Jeep Wrangler A/C Accumulator Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install an A/C Accumulator in a Refrigerant System on 2002 Jeep Wrangler?
A: The first step is to isolate the battery's negative cable and then recover all the refrigerant from the AC system. Disconnect the wire harness from the low pressure cycling clutch switch and remove the clip holding the liquid line to the accumulator outlet tube near the dash panel. Release the screw holding the accumulator band to the support bracket and then remove the suction line from the outlet tube refrigerant line. Remember to install plugs or tape over all opened refrigerant line fittings. After that, take off the tube connecting the accumulator inlet and the evaporator outlet, then once again place tape on all leftover tubes. Move the unit forward until the head of the screw in the band is no longer in the hole in the dash panel and take out the accumulator. Put the screw from the retaining band into the hole on the dash panel to join the accumulator and retaining band all at once. Take off the tape or plugs from the refrigerant line fittings on the accumulator and evaporator pipes and hook the accumulator inlet tube coupler to the evaporator outlet tube. Secure the retaining band around the accumulator to 4.5 Nm (40 in. lbs.), then unplug the tape or remove the refrigerant line try-plugs on the suction line and accumulator entry tube and connect the two with a coupler. Set the clip onto the end of the liquid line at the accumulator outlet pipe, secure the wire harness connector into the low pressure cycling clutch switch and attach the battery negative cable. In the end, empty the system, add 120 milliliters (4 fluid ounces) of refrigerant oil to the refrigerant system when replacing the accumulator if needed and use only the coolant required by the vehicle's compressor.
