2001 Jeep Wrangler A/C Condenser Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Ensure Optimal Performance When Removing and Reinstalling an A/C Condenser on 2001 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Notice where every radiator and condenser seal is placed, as these seals guide and send air through the condenser and radiator which must be installed again in the same spots for maximum functioning. You should first unhook the battery negative lead, then proceed to take out the refrigerant from your refrigerant system. Remove the three retainers that hold the upper condenser air seal to the grille panel, then take away the air seal. After that, take out the screws that keep the condenser's mounting brackets in place on the grille panel. Open the grille panel on the driver side and get to the condenser screws that attach the condenser inlet jumper tube and outlet jumper tube block fittings to remove these screws. Before you leave, seal off all the refrigerant line openings with either tape or plugs. Unbolt the retainers fixed to the passenger frame rail under the car and the bottom of the grille to free the seal from the lower condenser, then pull the seal out. After that, take out the two screws under the lower condenser mounting bracket and the three screws on both sides of the radiator. Slowly move the radiator and shroud back to their initial position, so the cooling fan blades don't touch the radiator and then lift the condenser out of the vehicle. For setting up your HVAC system, fit the condenser into the front of the vehicle and tighten down the two upper bracket screws to a torque of 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Clamp the front of the radiator onto the grille panel and install the six screws holding them, turning them to a torque of 8 Nm (72 in. lbs.). Seal the upper portion of the condenser air seal to its designated area on the grille panel with three retainers, after which remove the tape or plugs from the condenser, the inlet tubing and outlet tube line block fittings. Insert the two inlet and outlet jumper tube block fittings into the condenser through the grille and secure each with two screws locked at 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.). Install the screws holding the lower condenser bracket to the grille panel, tensioning them to 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs.) and place the lower condenser air seal between the grille panel and passenger side rail using three retainers. Bring the negative battery cable into place, empty the refrigerant system and fill the refrigerant. When you replace the condenser, make sure to add 30 milliliters (1 fluid ounce) of refrigerant oil to the refrigerant system, using just the oil recommended for your car's compressor.
