2002 Jeep Wrangler A/C Condenser Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install an A/C Condenser on 2002 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Don't forget to find each condenser and radiator air seal before unmounting the condenser, because they control the air through these parts and have to be put back correctly to ensure the refrigerator performs its best. The first step is to disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable, before you start to recover the refrigerant. Attach the three retainers to their pull-out points and then take off the upper condenser air seal from the grille panel. After that, take out the two screws that keep the upper part of the condenser on the grille panel. Access through the front of the vehicle and unscrew the screws for both jumpers that secure the condenser to remove them. At this point, put plugs or tape over all opened fittings of the refrigerant lines. Take out the three retainers keeping the lower condenser air seal attached to the lower grille panel on the passenger side and to the passenger side frame rail and remove the lower air seal as well. After that, open up the lower condenser bracket bolts and then remove the screws securing the radiator mounting brackets to the grille. Tilt the radiator and shroud unit to face the engine and ensure the cooling fan will not hit the radiator fins before lifting the condenser out of the car. Position the condenser inside the vehicle and join the upper brackets tightly to the grille panel by turning the screws 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Place the radiator mounting brackets against the grille panel and use six screws to connect the radiator and shroud unit to the panel, tightening them to 8 Nm (72 in. lbs.). Secure the upper condenser air seal with three retainers to the grille panel and next, remove the tape or plugs from the condenser and both fridge line block fittings. Use the grille opening to attach the block fittings to the condenser with a set of screws, but tighten them only to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.). Put the two condenser bracket screws through the grille panel, make sure they are aligned and tighten them to 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Connect the lower condenser air seal to the passenger frame rail and grille panel with three retainers. After that, link the negative battery cable, empty the system where refrigerant used to be and charge it, but only add 30 milliliters (1 fluid ounce) of the proper refrigerant oil to the refrigerant system if you replaced the condenser.
