2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser A/C Compressor Cut-Out Switches Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How Do A/C Compressor Cut-Out Switches Affect High Pressure Sensor Service and Repair on 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Before servicing the high pressure sensor/switch, remove all the refrigerant from the system. Remove the refrigerant from inside the A/C system and then disconnect the battery's negative cable. Lift and hold up the wagon, then unplug the engine connector from the cut out switch on the back cover of the compressor. After removing the internal snap ring with snap ring pliers, pull out the high pressure cut out switch from its switch port in the compressor back cover. Put a plug or tape over the switch port and throw away the rubber O-ring from the high pressure cut out switch on the compressor back cover. When you install it, brush away any dirt or dust from inside the switch bore and install the switch with a new O-ring made of the material suggested for the R-134 system and the stated compressor oil. Pull the tape or plug out of the port, add the high pressure cut out switch and attach the wire harness connector to the engine. With the vehicle down, attach the negative battery cable, drain the refrigerant, recharge the unit and wait for it to cool.
