2002 Dodge Neon A/C Accumulator Parts and Q&A
Q: What is the Role of the A/C Accumulator in an HVAC System on 2002 Dodge Neon?
A: The first step to servicing the HVAC system's accumulator is to remove all the refrigerant from the refrigerant system. Unplug the battery's negative cable from the vehicle. When possible, move the vehicle speed control servo so that you can get to the accumulator. Take out the low pressure clutch cycling switch from within the accumulator. After that, undo the screws holding the fittings of the suction and liquid line assembly to the inlet and outlet ports on the accumulator connector block and remove the fittings from each place. Take out the O-ring seal from the refrigerant line and install plugs or tape over the opened ports on the accumulator and over the open fittings. Unfasten the screw keeping the accumulator mounting bracket to the right rail and take the accumulator out from the engine section. While installing, set the accumulator back near the engine and use a torque wrench to tighten the bracket screw to 100 in. lbs. Lift or pull the tape or plugs off the accumulator connector block inlet and outlet ports and from the fittings on the refrigerant line. Before installing the O-rings, coat them with clean refrigerant oil made for the R-134a system. Install them on the fitting and use only the proper compression refrigerant oil and O-rings recommended by the vehicle maker. Secure the bottom of the refrigerant lines to each accumulator connector block inlet and outlet by screwing them on with a torque of 2.3 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Attach the low pressure clutch cycling switch onto the accumulator and, if needed, attach the vehicle speed control servo. Bring the negative battery cable back, remove all remaining refrigerant and if a new accumulator was installed, add the needed refrigerant oil to the system before charging.
