2004 Dodge Durango A/C Condenser Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install an A/C Condenser on 2004 Dodge Durango?
A: Make sure to empty the refrigerant from the refrigerant system and then unplug the negative battery wire before removing the condenser HVAC. Remove the retainers using the push pin and take off the seal from the top condenser/radiator. Disconnect the wires going to both the condenser cooling fan motor and the A/C pressure transducer and move the wire harnesses out of the way by removing the two shroud retainers. Eliminate the nut that holds the A/C discharge line in place, break the line away from the condenser and retainer and get rid of the O-ring seal and gasket from the fitting. Put plugs inside or cover the discharge line fitting and the condenser inlet port with tape. Remove the holding nut for the liquid line on the AC condenser, disconnect the A/C liquid line and then toss out the O-ring and gasket found inside the fitting. Place plugs or cover the liquid line fitting and condenser outlet with tape. Free the upper radiator support from the upper front crossmember by unscrewing its three bolts and position the radiator overflow hose someplace other than where it was. Remove the bolt at the upper left corner of the fender rail, carefully push the radiator out of the way and take out the whole condenser cooling fan assembly. Set the condenser/cooling fan assembly on the workbench, remove the two screws that hold the A/C condenser to the condenser fan shroud and lift the A/C condenser away from the shroud. If the A/C condenser is being replaced, add 30 milliliters of the recommended refrigerant oil to the refrigerant system alone. Align the A/C condenser with the condenser fan shroud, put the two bolts through them and tighten the bolts to 5 Nm. Tenawi the radiator for room and fit the condenser/cooling fan assembly under it, sliding the two lower fan shroud mounts into the front crossmember. Put in the bolt that connects the upper fender rail to the condenser/cooling fan assembly and tighten it to 5 Nm. Put the radiator overflow hose in place, fit the condenser/cooling fan assembly's metal tab into its corresponding hole and secure the upper radiator support. Put on the three bolts that link the upper radiator support to the upper front crossmember and tighten to 23 Nm. Take out the plug or tape from the liquid line fitting and condenser outlet port, gently massage a clean refrigerant oil onto the O-ring gasket and screw the O-ring gasket and a new rubber O-ring seal together on the fitting, remembering to use only the special O-ring specified for the R-134a system. Fix the A/C liquid line onto the A/C condenser and install the nut, squeezing it during installation to at least 22 Nm. Take off the tape or elements from the fitting and condenser inlet port, cover a clean O-ring with oil, then install both the O-ring and a cardboard gasket onto the discharge line fitting making use of only the appropriate O-ring. Fix the A/C discharge line onto the A/C condenser body and the clip on the shroud of the condenser fan and then secure them with the given nut, tightened to 22 Nm. fasten the wire harnesses and their retainers to the fan shroud, link the harness plugs to the condenser and A/C pressure transducer, fasten the upper condenser/radiator seal, then insert the push-pin retainers. After unhooking the cables from the battery, empty the refrigerant system before charging it.
