2005 Dodge Durango A/C Condenser Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Install an A/C Condenser on 2005 Dodge Durango?
A: First, you should recover the refrigerant and disconnect the battery's negative cable before removing the condenser HVAC. Get rid of the push-pin retainer rings and take off the upper condenser or radiator seal. After that, take the wire connectors from the condenser cooling fan motor and the A/C pressure transducer off and remove the retainers from the condenser's fan shroud. Afterward, move the wire harness out of the way. Unscrew the nuts that hold the A/C discharge and liquid lines to the condenser, remove these lines and throw away the O-ring seals and gaskets. Remove the A/C discharge line from its clamp on the condenser fan shroud, then secure it or block off with tape the open discharge line fittings and the open condenser ports. Unscrew the three bolts that support the upper radiator, remove the radiator support and put the radiator overflow hose where it can be moved out of the way. Pull out the bolt that attaches the condenser/cooling fan assembly to the fender rail on the left side, move the radiator slightly back and lift out the cooling unit from the car's front. Lay the assembly down and remove the two screws holding the A/C condenser to the condenser fan shroud, then take the condenser out. For replacing the A/C condenser during installation, add 30 milliliters of refrigerant oil to the refrigerant system. Place the A/C condenser into the shroud area and connect it with the two supporting bolts, keeping the tightness at 5 N.m. Then, push the radiator back to make space and fit the condenser/cooling fan assembly, so its lower tabs go securely into the two holes in the front member. Set the bolt that holds the assembly to the upper left fender rail, ensuring you tighten it to 5 N.m and fit the radiator overflow hose into its fixed spot. Ensure the upper mounting tab on the assembly is over the hole in the upper radiator support. Then, place the upper radiator support over the fittings and attach it with three bolts securing them to 23 N.m. Also, set each unused tape or plug aside and lubricate new rubber O-ring seals with refrigerant oil, installing all of these along with new gaskets onto the discharge and liquid line fittings and condenser ports. Connect the two AC lines to the A/C condenser, attach the nuts, tighten them to 22 N.m and plug the discharge line into the retainer on the fan shroud. Fit the wire harness and its retainers to the condenser fan shroud, join the connectors on the wire harness to both the fan motor and the pressure transducer, attach the upper condensor/radiator seal and secure the push-pin retainers, job done! Plug the negative battery cable back into place, remove all the refrigerant from the system and load the refrigerant system with gas.
