- Q: How to Service and Repair an A/C Expansion Valve Safely on 2004 Dodge Durango?A: To work on the A/C expansion valve, first recover the refrigerant and after that, remove the negative battery cable. Detach the suction line and the liquid line from the A/C expansion valve, then remove the two joining bolts and remove the valve from the evaporator tube tapping block. Both the evaporator tube fittings and expansion valve ports must have their O-ring seals discarded, then the openings should be covered with plugs or tape. Before installing, take off the tape or plugs, oil new O-ring seals with clean refrigerant oil from the compressor and attach them to the evaporator tube fittings, using only O-rings recommended for this type of system and the helix-type oil supplied with the compressor. Put the A/C expansion valve onto the evaporator tube tapping block and hold it by joining through the two bolts, tight against the instruction of 11 Nm (97 in. lbs.). Reconnect both suction and liquid lines to the expansion valve, replace the negative battery cable, empty the A/C refrigerant and recharge it.
