2004 Jeep Liberty Brake Booster Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install a Vacuum Brake Booster on a Right-Hand Drive on 2004 Jeep Liberty?
A: The first step to working on a vacuum brake booster in a right-hand drive vehicle is to remove the air box and reposition the cruise control servo to give you more access. Release the brake lines from the master cylinder and extract the master cylinder as well. Lift the vacuum hose from the check valve and withdraw the knee blocker under the steering column. Pull out the brake light switch after this. Remove the clip that keeps the push rod in place on the brake pedal and similarly remove the nuts that link the booster to the dash. In the engine compartment, slide the booster studs from the dash, lift the booster up and remove it from its location. For the safety booster seat to be secure, position it nicely and mount it by putting in the nuts until the booster is still enough to stay on the dash panel. Push the booster push rod onto the brake pedal, then use the retaining clip to hold it in place, but beforehand make sure to grease the pedal pin with Mopar multi-mileage grease. Set the bolts of the booster mount to 39 Nm (29 ft. lbs.), then put back the brake light switch and knee blocker. If the same master cylinder is installed, verify and change the seal at the rear if necessary. Make sure to clean the booster's cylinder mounting spot using a shop towel soaked in brake cleaner. Join the master cylinder to the booster studs and tighten the mounting nuts to 17.5 Nm (155 in. lbs.). Attach the vacuum hose to the booster check valve, fix the cruise control servo in its original position and tighten the bracket mounting nuts to 17.5 Nm (155 in. lbs.). Brake the brake lines to both the HCU and master cylinder and begin threading the fittings by hand to ensure they don't cross-thread. Join the wire to the reservoir, fully close the air intake box, work on bleeding fluid in the base system and check that the brake works properly after everything is installed.
