2005 Dodge Dakota A/C Accumulator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service an A/C Accumulator on 2005 Dodge Dakota?
A: Before working on the HVAC accumulator, be sure to disconnect the negative battery cable and get rid of the system's refrigerant. Take out the air filter housing, unhook the A/C suction line and toss away the O-ring and gasket. Take out the upper retaining clip from the spring-lock coupler that holds the accumulator inlet tube and evaporator outlet tube together and remove the bolts securing the A/C accumulator to the bracket. You should use the correct A/C tool to separate the accumulator inlet and evaporator outlet tubes, discard both seals and seal or tape the open refrigerant lines. When needed, unbolt the nuts holding the accumulator bracket to the dash and remove the bracket from your engine compartment. Before adding a new A/C accumulator, add 60 ml of recommended refrigerant oil to the refrigerant system. Reattach the A/C accumulator mounting bracket and retaining nuts, tightening them by 4.5 N.m. Then position the accumulator onto the bracket and do not tighten the bolts yet. After that, remove the caps or plugs and tape from the opened refrigerant system side. Place clean refrigerant oil on the new rubber O-ring seals and fit them onto the accumulator spring-lock coupler fitting using only the original specified O-rings for R-134a. Attach the spring-lock coupler to the evaporator outlet tube, add the secondary retaining clip and tighten the accumulator bracket bolts to 4.5 N.m. After that, join the A/C suction line to the A/C accumulator, place the air filter housing back in place, evacuate the A/C system, charge the refrigerant and plug back the negative battery cable.
