2005 Dodge Dakota Brake Pad Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair Brake Pads on the Front Disc on 2005 Dodge Dakota?
A: Start by raising and supporting the car and then take out the wheel and tire units. Squeeze the caliper and take out the bolts that hold the caliper slide pin. Then, pull the caliper off the caliper adapter. First, make sure that the brake hose doesn't hold the caliper assembly and then lift and support the caliper using the clamp. Then, pull out the inboard brake pad from the adapter, next remove the outboard brake pad and remove the anti-rattle clips from both pads. Make sure to use water dampened cloth or brake cleaner to clean all separate brake pieces such as the support plate and wheel cylinder and not to use any other cleaners. You should lightly sand the contact pads with fine sandpaper if they are showing light rust or scale. To mount the pistons, screw a C-clamp to the outside of the caliper using an old brake shoe between the C-clamp and piston. Make sure to clean the caliper mounting adapter and then add new anti-rattle clips onto the brake pads. Lift the inboard brake pad to the adapter location and then lift the outboard brake pad into place. Place the caliper over the rotor, push it onto the adapter and add the slide pin bolts. Install both assemblies, drive the vehicle on level ground and work the brakes several times to make sure everything is properly seated. Fill the level of the master cylinder to its appropriate height.
