2005 Dodge Dakota Camshaft Position Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Install a Camshaft Position Sensor on a 3.7L V-6 Engine on 2005 Dodge Dakota?
A: On the 3.7L V-6, the CMP is bolted to the left side of the head of the front cylinder. Before you remove the sensor, first take out the CMP sensor's electrical connector and unscrew the sensor mounting bolt. Turn the sensor gently out of the cylinder head and check if the sensor's O-ring is damaged. When installing, clear out the hole in the cylinder head and slightly spread a bit of engine oil on the sensor O-ring. After fitting the sensor into the cylinder head, rotating it and tilting it a bit as you push it down, make sure the sensor is flush before tightening the bolt that holds it in place. After that, push in the mounting bolt and tighten it to the correct torque and then connect the electrical connector to the sensor.
