2005 Dodge Durango Heater Core Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Rear Heater Core on 2005 Dodge Durango?
A: If you want to service the rear heater core, first take out the rear HVAC housing and the rear blend door actuator. Clean the foam seal around the rear heater core and evaporator extension line flange. If it is deformed or damaged, replace it carefully with a new seal. After that, unscrew the fasteners joining the two halves of the rear heater core and evaporator extension line flange, then get rid of the outer part. Remove the screw at the back of the heater core tube retaining bracket and then take out the bracket. Very carefully remove the rear heater core from the rear HVAC housing. After placing the new or cleaned rear heater core in the back of the HVAC housing, make sure the insulator is correctly situated. Lock the rear heater core bracket onto the car using the screw, but tighten it to 2 N.m (17 in. lbs.). Reattach the outer half of the rear heater core and evaporator extension line flange, using screws that are tightened to 2 N.m (17 in. lbs.). Install the foam seal on the flange, put back the rear blend door actuator and then set in place the rear HVAC housing. Don't skip flushing the cooling system before reassembling after replacing the heater core.
