Q: How to Service and Repair the Rear Section of an A/C Hose on 2005 Dodge Durango?
A: You should recover the A/C refrigerant and remove the negative wire from the battery before working on the rear section of the line. Take out the air cleaner housing from the engine compartment, then disconnect the rear part of the A/C liquid line from the plastic holder on the fender. Lose the bolt that secures the rear A/C liquid line to the receiver/drier and then remove the line from the receiver/drier. Afterwards, discard the old O-ring seal. Tape or plug up the liquid line fitting and receiver/drier port after they have been opened. Lift the car, then take off the splash shield on the right front wheelhouse. Take out the plastic retainer fastening the A/C suction line to the tapping block and turn off the nut holding the tapping block to the expansion valve. Disconnect the suction line on the A/C from the expansion valve, as well as the rear part of the A/C liquid line, throwing away the O-ring seals and gaskets along with them. Once you have opened the lines, put plugs or tape over them and the expansion valve ports. After that, separate the suction line from the block that attaches the suction and liquid lines. With rear HVAC, unhook the underbody liquid line from the nearby tapping block and remove the rear tube from the engine space. When installing, first put the rear part of the A/C liquid line into the engine space, connect the A/C suction line into the liquid line tapping block and secure it with a retainer. Take away any tapes or plugs covering the suction and liquid line fittings and the A/C expansion valve. Elastic O-ring seals should be lubricated with clear R-134a refrigerant oil first, then put them together with a new gasket on the expansion valve, making sure both are those designed for R-134a systems. Next, put the A/C suction line and rear part of the A/C liquid line into the A/C expansion valve, attach the nut joining the liquid line tapping block to the valve and tighten it to 23 N.m. For vehicles with a rear heating-A/C system, join the underbody liquid line to the liquid line tapping block, replace the right front wheelhouse splash shield, lower the car and take off the tape or plugs from the liquid line fitting and receiver/drier. Apply some clean refrigerant oil to a fresh rubber O-ring seal and fit the seal over the liquid line fitting, connecting the other end of the liquid line to the receiver/drier and tightening the bolt by hand only slightly. After that, attach the rear section of the liquid line to the plastic retainer on the right inner fender, put back the air cleaner housing, link the negative battery cable, clear the refrigerant system from the engine and charge the main refrigerant system.
