2005 Dodge Durango A/C Expansion Valve Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Rear A/C Expansion Valve on 2005 Dodge Durango?
A: Recovering the refrigerant from the system should precede the servicing or repairs of the rear expansion valve. Wing back the trim on the right rear quarter panel and the insulator from the rear A/C evaporator tubes to reach the two rear A/C expansion valve bolts. Free the rear A/C expansion valve by undoing the two bolts that link the rear A/C evaporator tubes to the rear evaporator tapping block, taking out the valve and tossing the O-ring seals away. Cover each exposed evaporator tube, extension tube fitting and rear expansion valve port with a plug or piece of tape. After that, take away the tape or caps from the open fittings and plates, oil new rubber O-ring seals and attach them to the fittings of the evaporator tube and extension tube using only genuine R-134a O-rings and ac compressor oil. Place the A/C expansion valve between the evaporator tubes and the extension tube tapping block in the rear and hold it in place with the two bolts while tightening them to 11 N.m (97 in. lbs.). Attach a fresh insulator to the rear A/C tubes, set the right rear quarter panel in place, empty the refrigerant system and finally pump the refrigerant back into it.
