  A: To work on the brake light switch, start by removing and unplugging the vehicle's negative battery cable and then wait two minutes for the capacitor to discharge. Find the switch for the brake lamp next to the support bracket attached to the lower steering column and pull the wire harness connector away. Turn the switch housing housing counterclockwise to make the tabs in the collar match the keyed part on the bracket, then take out the switch straight out. As the brake lamp switch adjusting plunger works only one time, dispose of the old switch and attach a new one. Press and keep the brake pedal down while the tabs on the brake lamp switch locking collar fit into the keyed hole in the switch bracket. After that, insert the tabs until the switch is securely in place. Twist the switch to the right for about 30 degrees so the tabs connect with the bracket, then release the brake's upward pressure without pulling it further. Turn the plunger adjustment release lever clockwise until you feel it snap into place beside the brake lamp switch connector; once set, you cannot change it.
