2006 Dodge Durango Evaporator Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain an Evaporator in the Rear A/C System on 2006 Dodge Durango?
A: The rear A/C evaporator should be serviced after taking out its housing and setting the housing on a workbench. Cut off the rear HVAC wire harness from the rear blower motor and the blower motor resistor. Unscrew the air inlet housing that sits on the rear HVAC housing and take it out. Slide back the insulator hiding the rear A/C evaporator tubes to get to the two rear A/C expansion valve bolts. First, take out the bolts that attach the rear A/C evaporator tubes to the rest of the rear A/C expansion valve and rear evaporator extension tube tapping block. Once those are out, carefully remove the rear evaporator from the rear HVAC housing. Unclip the rear A/C expansion valve from the block joining the evaporator extension tube and throw away the rings around it. Put a plastic plug into each open rear evaporator and extension tube fitting and over all the ports of the rear expansion valve. Once the rear A/C evaporator is replaced, inject 30 milliliters of the proper refrigerant oil into the A/C system while it's connected to the compressor the A/C system is working. Insert the evaporator head into the rear HVAC shell so it is snug at the top and take off the plugs or coverings from all of the openings. Use clean R-134a oil to grease the O-rings, then install them on the evaporator tube and extension tube fittings using only the required O-rings. Connect the rear expansion valve between the back A/C tubes and the block with two bolts fitted to 11 N.m. After that, join the rear HVAC wire harness with both the rear blower motor and its resistor and fix the HVAC housing back into place.
