2005 Dodge Durango Evaporator Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix the Rear Evaporator Core on 2005 Dodge Durango?
A: To handle repairs or maintenance for the rear evaporator core, open and pull out the rear HVAC housing. Place it on a workbench once it is out. Remove the rear HVAC wire harness wire connections from the resistor and the rear blower motor. Remove the screws between the rear air inlet housing and rear HVAC housing and lift out the rear air inlet assembly. Now, pull off the insulator lining the rear A/C evaporator tubes so you can reach the two expansion valve bolts at the rear. Release the bolts connecting the rear A/C evaporator tubes to the rear expansion valve and connecting the back evaporator line to the block, then pull the rear A/C evaporator up and out of the top of the rear HVAC casing. Takeout the rear A/C expansion valve from the rear evaporator extension tube tapping block and throw away the O-ring seals. Tape over or plug the opened rear evaporator and extension tube fittings as well as all the rear expansion valve ports. When the rear A/C evaporator is being replaced, put 30 milliliters of the recommended refrigerant oil into the vehicle's refrigerant system. Lift the new rear A/C evaporator into the housing above the rear HVAC, after which remove any tape or temporary plugs from the opened ports and fittings. Apply some clean oil from a new can onto the rubber seals and place them on both housing and extension tube connections, only using the O-rings designed for the R-134a system. Position the rear air con expansion valve between the rear A/C evaporator tubes and the rear extension tube tapping block, using two nuts and screwing them in by 11 N.m. After that, attach a new insulator to the evaporator lines and then fit the rear air inlet housing onto the rear HVAC housing. Secure these using screws tightened to 2 N.m. First, attach the rear HVAC wire harness to the rear blower motor and then the rear blower motor resistor. After that, put back the rear HVAC housing.
