2006 Dodge Durango A/C Expansion Valve Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Rear A/C Expansion Valve Safely on 2006 Dodge Durango?
A: If you want to service or fix the rear A/C expansion valve, beginning with removing the refrigerant from the system is necessary. Remove the trim piece from the right rear quarter panel and take off the tube insulator to find and remove the two bolts keeping the rear A/C expansion valve in place. Unbolt these fasteners to take away the rear A/C expansion valve from in between the rear A/C evaporator tubes and the rear evaporator extension tube tapping block, then discard the O-ring seals. Be sure to close off the stopped areas of the evaporator tubes, the extension tube fittings and every rear expansion valve port with plugs or tape. To install, pull off the tape or plugs, apply clean refrigerant oil to the new rubber O-ring seals and attach them to the evaporator tube and extension tube fittings using only the O-rings and oil specified for R-134a refrigerant on the compressor. Push the rear A/C expansion valve onto the rear A/C evaporator tubing close to the rear extension tube tapping block, then lock it with the two bolts tightened to 11 N.m or 97 in. lbs. Replace the front and back insulators, ensure the right rear quarter panel trim is secure, empty the air conditioning system and afterward fill it with new refrigerant.
