2006 Jeep Commander Brake Booster Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Brake Booster on 2006 Jeep Commander?
A: The process of servicing and repairing the power brake booster starts with draining the master cylinder and taking out the main brake line from the master cylinder, then removing the main brake line at the HCU (4). After that, take off the secondary brake line at the master cylinder and HCU (4), unhook the four chassis lines at the HCU and unplug the HCU's electrical connector (5). Take out the 3 nuts at the HCU bracket (2) and remove this bracket with the HCU (1) from your car. Unplug the brake fluid level sensor electrical connector (9) from the fluid reservoir (2) and take out the 2 master cylinder mounting nuts (8) to remove the master cylinder (6). Unhook the vacuum hose at the booster check valve (10), take away the hush panel (2) and uncover the opening at the steering column (2). Push the retainer clip off the booster push rod (1) and take the rod from the connector pin (2). Disconnect the wire going from the brake lamp switch to the vehicle and take out the brake lamp switch. Unscrew the four nuts (3) that secure the booster to the dash panel, then in the rear compartment, lift off the wire harness routing clips (3) and separate the harness (1) from the rest. In the last step, take out the booster (1) from the vehicle. Before installation, make sure the check valve grommet is secure and change it if it is damaged or loose. Attach the new booster dash seal, set the booster into the holes marked with 2 and apply some Mopar multi-mileage grease to the pedal pin. Insert the three booster attaching nuts (3) into the studs and tighten them to 39 Nm (29 ft. lbs.). Attach the booster push rod (1) to the end of the pedal pin and retain the connection with the clip. Attach the new brake lamp switch, join the electrical connector and then set the steering column opening cover (2) and hush panel (2) in place. In this part, fix the vacuum hose onto the booster check valve (1) and place the master cylinder into the power brake booster (1) while installing a new gasket and nuts. After that, place the wire back into position and set the routing clip (3) and finish by plugging in the brake fluid level electrical connector (9). Secure the HCU with bracket to the vehicle and tighten the two mounting nuts. Then plug in the HCU connector, reconnect it with the chassis lines and secure these lines to the HCU. Install the secondary brake line on both the HCU (4) and master cylinder and do the same with the primary brake line at both the HCU and master cylinder. When the system is installed, fill and bleed all of the brakes.
