2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Parking Brake Cable Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Rear Parking Brake Cable on 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: On your custom vehicle, first remove the rear seat bottom and then unconnect the electrical connectors on the final drive control module to service or repair the parking brake cable. After that, get rid of the mounting nuts for the module bracket and remove the rear sill plates, before rolling back the carpet to access the rear park brake cables. Release the park brake with the lock, remove the tiniest cog from the equalizer linkage and then get the park brake cables through the floor. Life the vehicle, then take off the tire and wheel and continue with the rear caliper and rotor. With the axle flange bolts removed, take out the axle, free the park brake cable from the lever and detach the rear park brake shoes. Pull the park brake cable off through the support plate, after which you remove the bolts from both stabilizer bar bushings and the two push pins in the axle, then let the cable drop out of the vehicle. Install the new cable first, then add the two push pins of the park brake cable to the stabilizer bracket and clamp the bolts to the stabilizer bushings. Place the park brake cable into the support plate, fasten it at the brake actuator lever and link the rear shoes again. Set up the axle flange nuts, insert the axle shaft, fiddle with the rear park brake shoes and prepare the disc rotor by adding the rear caliper. Send the park brake cables down through the vehicle's floor, fit the tire and wheel assembly, have the ground staff lower the car and attach the cables to the equalizer. After completing the other steps, flip the rear carpet down, fix the rear sill plates into position, screw in the nuts from the final drive control module bracket, connect the module's wires and make sure you put the rear seat bottom in place and check the parking brake.
