2006 Jeep Liberty Control Arm Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain the Lower Control Arm on 2006 Jeep Liberty?
A: To work on the lower control arm, you should first lift and support the car, then take off the tire and wheel. Following that, take out the bolt fastening the lower clevis bracket to the lower control arm (4) and the stabilizer link bolt at the lower control arm (4). Remove the lower ball joint nut (3) and use tool C-4150A to part the lower ball joint from the lower control arm. Number the bolts connect the lower control arm to the chassis as 1 front and 5 rear and then remove the cam/pivot bolt from each end to replace the lower control arm (4). For correct installation, place the lower control arm (4) onto the car first, then install the rear cam/pivot bolt (5) and the front cam/pivot bolt (1). Position and tighten the lower ball joint nut (3) to 81 Nm (60 ft. lbs.). Place the marks on the cam/pivot bolts in line and tighten the nuts using 170 Nm (125 ft. lbs.). Installing linkage bolts and nuts comes next. Secure the stabilizer link bolt to the lower control arm and tighten the nut at 136 Nm (100 ft. lbs.) and subsequently tighten the lower clevis bracket bolt at 150 Nm (110 ft. lbs.). Once done, put the wheel and tire back on and get a wheel alignment performed.
