  A: Before servicing or repairing the vacuum brake booster, shift the driver's seat all the way back and disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery post. You should pump down the vacuum in the brake booster first by pushing the brake pedal multiple times; usually, you need to do this 4 to 5 times with the engine off. Then, remove the coolant recovery bottle from its place on top of the engine and then the master cylinder. Separate the vacuum hose from the side of the check valve, but don't take the check valve out. To take apart the booster push rod, slip a small screwdriver between the center tang and pin retaining clip, turn it to raise the clip and let it pass over the end of the pin, before sliding it off and discarding it. Take out the stop lamp switch and discard it, as you should replace it with a new one when you install the system again. Move forward in the engine compartment, take out each of the four nuts attaching the power brake booster and pull it free.
