2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser Coil Springs Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Install Coil Springs on 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Before installing the coil springs, lay a rubber isolator at each end, so the rubber fingers wrap the spring and the abutment touches the flat end. The design of the coil spring is the same at both ends, so either one can be placed above or below. After that, fit the coil springs into place on the axle spring perches with the correct orientation to the interior of the car. Prop the car up again and adjust the coil springs with the rubber isolators, so the flat end of each upper spring sits at about the same place as the inner beams. Insert a transmission jack below the coil springs and bring them up into the spring mounting brackets on the car body until the shock absorber lower mounting bolts can be aligned with the axle brackets and shock lower mounting eyes. Move the jack upward so that the lower shock absorber bolts can be set and then put a washer and nut on each one, tightening them to 88 Nm (65 ft. lbs.). As soon as you take away the jack, if there is a cushion for the rear stabilizer bar, link each side of the cushion to the slots at the back of the axle, turn its ends upward to put in the bolts and tighten them to 61 Nm (45 ft.-lb.). While doing the installation, make the bell crank point downward so the writing on the crank that displays "BACK UP" can be seen from above the back of the axle. Screw the watts link bell crank to the center of the axle tightly with a bolt, a washer and a nut, using a torque of 149 Nm (110 ft. lbs.). Put each tire and wheel assembly on a side of the vehicle, secure the nuts to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.) and use jack stands to support the vehicle while you check that its curb height is the same all around.
