2007 Jeep Commander A/C Clutch Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Replace an A/C Clutch on 2007 Jeep Commander?
A: Before starting, first disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable, then remove the accessory drive belt. Separate the central engine wire from the connector on the compressor clutch field coil at the top of the A/C compressor. Unscrew the bolts binding the A/C compressor to the engine and then lower the compressor gently. Remove the compressor clutch field coil connector and wire lead from the bolt on the connector bracket. Hold the clutch plate in place by using a band-type oil filter wrench or a strap wrench when taking out the compressor shaft bolt. Do not attempt to prise apart the clutch plate and the pulley and bearing assembly, because this could hurt the clutch plate and be careful not to drop any shims because you might need them again. Lightly strike the clutch plate with a plastic mallet to let it go from the splines on the compressor shaft and then remove both the clutch plate and shim(s). With Snap Ring Pliers 9764 or similar, remove the snap ring holding the pulley and bearing assembly to the front of the A/C compressor and take out the entire set-up. Afterward, remove the snap ring (9764 or equivalent) that holds the compressor clutch field coil to the front of the A/C compressor and remove the field coil with Snap Ring Pliers 9764 (or something similar).
