2007 Jeep Liberty Clock Spring Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove a Clock Spring Assembly on 2007 Jeep Liberty?
A: Before removing the Clock Spring Assembly, place the car's wheels straight ahead. Loose or disconnect the battery's negative terminal and wait for two minutes before handling anything else to avoid air bag accidental deployment. Take the driver air bag out of the steering wheel and detach the steering wheel wire harness from its connection at the upper Clock Spring connectors. Hold the steering wheel puller in place while making sure the screws go all the way into the steering wheel armature, without touching the Clock Spring. Take the steering wheel off of the steering column. With a tilt steering column, get the steering wheel as low as it will go and hold the release lever down. From below the steering column, get rid of the two screws that hold the lower shroud to the upper shroud. Fill the sack and push in both sides of the upper shroud to make the buckles pop, then remove the shrouds. Remove the two connectors from the Clock Spring receptacles under the steering wheel. Should your vehicle have an ESP, you should just detach the ESP instrument panel wire harness connector from the under side of the steering column. Insert a thin folded-blade screwdriver into the two plastic latches that hold the Clock Spring case to the steering lock. Then release the Clock Spring from the clock housing unit. A new Clock Spring is required if the old one fails or is damaged or if the driver air bag has been activated, as repair is not possible. If you want to reuse the Clock Spring, join the rotor to the case to keep it centered until installation; if not, you have to center it again before replacing it.
