Disabling the supplemental restraint system can prevent accidental
Air Bag firing and must happen before starting to install the Clock Spring assembly by isolating and unattaching the negative
Battery Cable for two minutes. Adjust the wheels so that the front of the car heads forward straight. Shove the Clock Spring down over the
Steering Column upper shaft until the plastic ring hooks at the rear of the Clock Spring catch onto the steering column. If the vehicle includes the Electronic Stability Program, attach the connector for the Steering Angle Sensor in the instrument panel wire harness to the pigtail connector which you will locate on the back of the Clock Spring below the steering column. Attach the two wire harness ends from the Clock Spring to the receptacles located behind the Clock Spring case inside the car. Stack the upper and lower shrouds on the steering column, make sure the lower shroud's features match the upper shroud's openings and press both parts together by hand. Lift up the lower shroud and set the two screws into the top of the steering column, tightening them to 2 Nm (18 in. lbs.). With a tilt steering column, lift it to the top and secure it by locking the release lever. After replacing the Clock Spring, take out the plastic locking pin to preserve the rotor's center. Fasten the
Steering Wheel onto the steering column and tighten the steering wheel mounting screw to the required torque level. Reattach the steering wheel wire harness connector to its upper Clock Spring receptacle, fit the driver air bag back to the steering wheel and hook up the battery negative cable at last.
