2008 Dodge Dakota Brake Light Switch Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service a Brake Light Switch on 2008 Dodge Dakota?
A: First, turn off the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) by taking out the car's battery negative cable and holding it isolated for two minutes, so the capacitor can empty itself. After that, find the brake lamp switch next to where the support bracket connects to the lower steering column. Separate the wire harness connector from the brake lamp switch and then twist the switch housing clockwise approximately 30 degrees until the keys on the locking collar fall into the keyed hole in the switch mounting bracket. Use the switch and pull it right back out of the keyed hole to take it off the bracket. A self-adjusting switch plunger cannot be used again after being removed from the housing, so a replacement is necessary if needed. Get rid of the removed brake lamp switch.
