2009 Dodge Dakota Brake Light Switch Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service a Brake Light Switch on 2009 Dodge Dakota?
A: Before beginning brake light switch maintenance, turn off the SRS by isolating the battery negative cable and letting the system capacitor release its power for two minutes. After that, identify the brake lamp switch attached to the bracket under the steering wheel. Take the wire harness connector out of the brake lamp switch, then twist the switch housing clockwise about 30 degrees so that the tabs on the switch locking collar fit into the keyed hole in the switch mounting bracket. To remove the switch from the bracket, pull it straight back from the slot it is in. You should understand that the self-adjusting switch plunger is built to last only once; if you remove the switch from the mounting bracket, you'll need to install a new one. Get rid of the removed brake lamp switch.
