2009 Dodge Nitro A/C Condenser Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How Can Proper Maintenance of the A/C Condenser Prevent System Malfunction and Compressor Damage on 2009 Dodge Nitro?
A: Before servicing the A/C system, check and correctly set the refrigerant oil level to avoid A/C failure and damage to the compressor. Make sure the radiator/condenser air seals are fitted correctly so the vehicle works well. For replacing numerous A/C parts, check the chart for Refrigerant Oil Capacities to know how much oil is needed in the cooling system. For just replacing one A/C condenser, use 30 milliliters (1 fluid ounce) of the proper refrigerant oil. Replace the rubber seals and gaskets whenever lines for refrigerant are unhooked so that no leaks happen. First, take off any tape or plugs blocking the refrigerant fittings and the receiver/drier and condenser ports. After cleaning rubber O-ring seals, lubricate them with clean refrigerant oil and fasten a new gasket onto the refrigerant fittings using only O-rings for the R-134a system. If you have uninstalled the A/C receiver/drier, put it now onto the A/C condenser. Guide the A/C condenser to its spot over the engine and bolt it with two bolts to its mounting brackets, tightening each one to 5 Nm (44 in. lbs.). Secure the A/C discharge line to the condenser, then tighten the securing nut to 22.5 Nm (200 in. lbs.). Adjust the seal around the right-side condensing unit and, if you have a transmission cooler, attach its lines to the A/C condenser. Fit the grille into place, connect the liquid A/C line to the condenser tube and hold it in place with the secondary retaining clip. Replace the engine air cleaner housing in the car and reconnect the negative terminal to the battery. Pull the refrigerant out of the system and, when replacing the A/C condenser, use 30 milliliters (1 fluid ounce) of refrigerant oil or follow the chart for various component replacements. Once all is in place, refrigerant must be put into the system.
