2008 Jeep Commander A/C Expansion Valve Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Properly Install and Service an A/C Expansion Valve on 2008 Jeep Commander?
A: Before installing the expansion valve, make sure the refrigerant oil is set properly so the system doesn't get damaged. After changing several A/C parts, use the Refrigerant Oil Capacities guide for the proper amount of oil. It is necessary to replace the O-ring seals along with refrigerant lines whenever a line opening occurs so that there are no leaks. Take off all tape or plugs covering the underbody refrigerant line, rear evaporator tube fittings and rear expansion valve ports, starting with the first fitting. Apply some clean R-134a refrigerant oil to new rubber O-ring seals and keep them in place after putting them on the rear evaporator tube fittings with the specified O-rings for the A/C. Attach the rear A/C expansion valve to the rear evaporator tube tapping block, screwing two bolts in to 11 Nm (97 in. lbs.) of tightness. Apply clean refrigerant oil to each new rubber O-ring and install them onto the rear underbody refrigerant rinings using only the exact O-rings. Join the underbody refrigerant lines to the expansion valve at the back and tighten the fitting to 11 Nm (95 in. lbs.). Fit the rear heater hoses to the backend of the heater core tubes, then fix the adjustable clamps. Put in the new quarter liner and the rear tire, wheel and assembly and then lower the vehicle. Replace the negative battery cable, put coolant into the cooling system, remove all refrigerant, set the oil level in the refrigerant system and charge the refrigeration system.
