Insert the rear park brake cable into its mounting hole in the rear brake support plate and attach it to the park brake actuation lever. Apply sealant, such as Mopar Gasket-In-A-Tube or equivalent, around the wheel cylinder opening in the brake support plate, then install the wheel cylinder onto the brake support and tighten the attaching bolts to 8 Nm (75 inch lbs.) torque. Install the brake tube into the wheel cylinder and tighten the tube nut to 17 Nm (145 inch lbs.) torque. Next, install the rear brake shoes on the brake support plate, followed by the brake drum and the wheel and tire. Tighten the wheel stud nuts to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.), adjust the drum brake shoes, remove the brake pedal depressor tool, bleed the brake system as necessary, and finally lower the vehicle.

Install the brake tube into the wheel cylinder and tighten the tube nut to 17 Nm (145 inch lbs.) torque. Next, install the rear brake shoes on the brake support plate, followed by the brake drum and the wheel and tire. Tighten the wheel stud nuts to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.), adjust the drum brake shoes, remove the brake pedal depressor tool, bleed the brake system as necessary, and finally lower the vehicle.

To service and repair the backing plate, begin by using a brake pedal holding tool to depress the brake pedal past its first one inch (25 mm) of travel and hold it in this position to isolate the master cylinder from the brake hydraulic system, preventing brake fluid from draining out of the master cylinder reservoir. Next, raise and support the vehicle, then remove the wheel mounting nuts and the tire and wheel assembly. Access and remove the drum brake shoes from the support plate. Use a 10 mm box wrench to compress the retainer fingers on the end of the parking brake cable housing, then pull the cable housing out of the support plate. Disconnect the brake tube at the wheel cylinder and remove the wheel cylinder attaching screws before taking the wheel cylinder out of the support plate. If a wheel speed sensor is present, remove the screw fastening the sensor head in the rear of the hub and bearing and take the sensor head out. Finally, remove the four bolts securing the hub and bearing, support plate, and spacer to the knuckle, and then take the hub and bearing, support plate, and spacer out as an assembly from the knuckle, separating the spacer and hub and bearing from the support plate once removed.
