To remove and replace the brake shoes, make sure the parking brake is in the release position before lifting the car. Firstly, raise and support the vehicle before removing the wheel mounting nuts and the rear tire and wheel assembly. Next, remove the brake drum. Take away the lower shoe spring. By doing this you will now be able to compress and remove the hold down spring which holds the rear shoe to the support plate. To reach the connection at the lever, pull the rear shoe away from the anchor on the parking brake. Release the tension of the spring on the cable and disconnect the parking brake lever. Next, compress and remove the spring that retains the fron shoe to the support plate, then remove the fron shoe and the rear wheel cylinder brake shoes. Remove both shoes and the remaining parts as an assembly through the opening, between the wheel cylinder and support plate hub and bearing, and place the shoe assembly outboard-side-up on a flat surface. Take away the adjuster spring from the leading shoe and the lever pawl, and then disconnect the lever pawl from the pivot on the rear shoe. To access the inboard side of the shoe assembly, flip it over, take off the upper shoe return spring, and finally remove the adjuster from the shoes and parking brake lever.

How to install a rear disc Brake Shoe Set on Chrysler Town & Country?

To install the rear disc brake shoes, first, completely retract the caliper piston back into the piston bore of the caliper assembly. Lubricate both adapter abutments where the shoes contact with a liberal amount of Mopar(R) Multipurpose Lubricant or an equivalent. If the brake rotor was removed, install it on the hub, ensuring it is squarely seated on the face of the hub. Next, install the inboard brake shoe into the caliper piston by firmly pressing it into the piston bore with your thumbs, ensuring it is positioned squarely against the face of the caliper piston. The outboard shoes are different for the left and right sides, identifiable by an L or R stamped on the clip. Install the outboard brake shoe on the disc brake caliper, ensuring it is positioned squarely against the outboard fingers of the caliper. When installing the caliper assembly onto the adapter, take care to avoid damaging the caliper guide pin bushings. Carefully lower the caliper and brake shoes over the rotor and onto the adapter, reversing the removal procedure. Extreme caution should be taken not to crossthread the caliper guide pin bolts during installation. Install the caliper guide pin bolts and tighten them to a torque of 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.). Then, install the wheel and tire assembly, tightening the wheel mounting nuts in the proper sequence until all nuts are torqued to half specification, and then repeat the tightening sequence to the full specified torque of 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.). Lower the vehicle and before moving it, pump the brake pedal several times to ensure a firm brake pedal for adequate stopping. Pump the brake pedal several times to set the brake shoes to the rotors, check the fluid level in the reservoir, and finally, road test the vehicle, making several stops to wear off any foreign material on the brakes and to seat the brake shoe linings.
