How to Install a Wiper Switch with Airbags on Dodge Dakota?

First, to remove the bag, unhook and leave unconnected the car battery's negative cable and wait a full two minutes to allow the air bag capacitor to discharge. Take the multi-function switch and fit it into the mounting housing from the left side, so the alignment pins connect. Turn the steering wheel as needed to place and tighten both screws at the back of the switch to the mounting housing to 2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Attach the wire harness connector again to the back of the switch, slide the shroud onto the bottom part of the steering column and tighten the center screw to 2 Nm (20 in. lbs). Put the upper shroud on top of the lower shroud, engaging the gearshift lever gap hider if the car is an automatic. Match the upper shroud's snaps with the slot-shaped holes in the lower shroud and squeeze it together by hand before tightening the two outboard screws to 2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Slide the tilt steering column knob onto the device and tighten it with a screw set to 2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Link the vehicle's battery negative cable back in place.

How to Service and Repair a Wiper Switch Safely on Dodge Durango?

When you have a car with air bags, take steps to avoid accidentally setting off the air bag. If necessary, unfasten the tilt steering column lever, next take off both upper and lower steering shrouds and then unbolt the bottom fixed column shroud. Turn the upper fixed column shroud around so it is behind the switch and then open the tamper proof screws using a Snap On tamper proof torx bit TTXR2OB2 or something similar. Pull the switch ever so slightly from the steering column to get at the screw on the multi-function switch wire harness connector, then disconnect the wire harness from the switch. When installing, use the same steps as for removal, but firm the multi-function switch wire harness connector screw to 2 Nm (17 in. lbs.) and make sure the multi-function switch mounting screws are 2 Nm (17 in. lbs.) tightly fastened. Disconnect and set aside the negative cable of the battery and remove the lower bezel from the instrument panel for the rear wiper switch. After that, take out the two screws holding the rear window switch pod to the instrument panel lower bezel and detach the pod. Install the exhaust manifold in reverse order and tighten every screw to 2.2 Nm or 20 in. lbs.
